Solitaire

The classic patience game. Deal, sort, and build all four suits from Ace to King.

How to play Solitaire

The goal is to move all 52 cards onto the four foundations at the top right, one pile per suit, in order from Ace up to King.

The seven columns below are dealt with one card face up on each. You can move a face-up card onto another column if it is one rank lower and the opposite colour: a red 7 onto a black 8, for example. You can move a whole run of face-up cards together. When you move the last face-up card off a column, the hidden card underneath turns over. Only a King, or a run starting with a King, can go into an empty column.

When you run out of moves, tap the stock at the top left to turn over new cards onto the waste pile. The top card of the waste can be played onto a column or a foundation. When the stock is empty, tap it again to turn the waste back over and go through it again.

Draw 1 or draw 3

In Draw 1, each tap of the stock turns over one card. It is the relaxed version and most games can be won. In Draw 3, three cards turn over at once and only the top one can be played, which makes it much harder to reach the card you need. Choose the mode when you start a new game.

Controls

  • Drag a card or a run of cards to where you want it.
  • Tap a card to send it to the best place automatically: a foundation if it can go there, otherwise a column.
  • Undo takes back as many moves as you like. Hint highlights a useful move.
  • When every card is face up and the stock is empty, Auto finish appears and plays the rest for you.
  • On a computer: Space draws from the stock, U or Ctrl+Z undoes, H shows a hint.

Scoring

  • Card to a foundation: 10 points.
  • Waste card to a column: 5 points.
  • Turning over a hidden card: 5 points.
  • Moving a card back off a foundation: minus 15 points.
  • Recycling the stock in Draw 1: minus 100 points.
  • Winning adds a time bonus: the faster you finish, the bigger it is.

Tips

  • Turn over hidden cards whenever you can, starting with the longest columns.
  • Do not empty a column unless you have a King ready to put in it.
  • Play Aces and Twos to the foundations straight away, but think before moving higher cards up: you may need them in the columns.
  • When choosing between two moves, pick the one that frees a face-down card.

Questions

Is every game winnable?

No. Deals are shuffled at random, and a small share of Klondike deals cannot be solved whatever you do. If you are stuck, use Undo to try a different line, or deal a new game.

Is it free?

Yes. It runs in your browser with nothing to install. Your number of wins and your best score are saved in your browser.
