Bowling Alley
Ten frames, ten pins and one lane to yourself. Swipe to bowl and chase a perfect 300.
How to bowl
- Line up. Drag the ball sideways to choose where it starts on the lane. The yellow line shows its path.
- Swipe up to throw. The faster you swipe, the harder you bowl. The angle of your swipe aims the ball slightly left or right.
- Add hook. Bend the end of your swipe left or right, and the ball curves that way as it reaches the dry end of the lane near the pins.
On a computer, use ← → to move the ball, A D to aim, Q E to add hook, and Space to bowl.
Scoring
A game has ten frames. In each frame you get two balls to knock down all ten pins.
| Result | Mark | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Strike: all ten with the first ball | X | 10 plus the next two balls |
| Spare: all ten using both balls | / | 10 plus the next ball |
| Open frame | numbers | The pins you knocked down |
| Miss or gutter ball | - | 0 |
In the tenth frame, a strike or spare earns bonus balls so its bonus can be counted, for up to three balls in that frame. The best possible score is 300: twelve strikes in a row. The score card under the lane fills in as you play.
Tips
- Aim for the pocket, not the head pin. The gap just to one side of the front pin sends pins flying into each other, which is how most strikes happen.
- Start the ball a little off centre and hook it back towards the middle. A straight ball into the head pin often leaves a split.
- Power helps, but accuracy matters more. A medium-speed ball that hits the pocket beats a fast one that clips the side.
- For spares, line up straight at the pins that are left and bowl with no hook.
Questions
Why did my ball fall in the gutter?
Too much angle or hook. Start closer to the middle, swipe straighter, or bend the end of the swipe less.
