Zombie Yard 3D

Night falls on the old graveyard and the dead start climbing out of the ground. Your crossbow never stops firing. Keep moving and build the strongest set of upgrades you can.

How to play Zombie Yard 3D

You only control where your hooded hero walks. Their crossbow fires at the closest enemy on its own, as fast as it can reload. The undead rise out of the ground all around you, close in from every side and hurt you while they touch you. When your health bar runs out, the run is over. Your score is how long you survived.

Every enemy you defeat bursts into bones and drops a green gem. Walk near gems to collect them. Fill the gem bar and you level up: the game pauses and offers you three upgrades to choose from.

Upgrades

  • Heavier bolts: every bolt hits harder.
  • Quick reload: shoot more often.
  • Spread shot: fire an extra bolt in a fan, up to six at once.
  • Piercing bolts: bolts pass through enemies and keep going.
  • Running boots: move faster.
  • Healing potion: more maximum health, and heals you fully.
  • Gem magnet: collect gems from further away.
  • Spinning blades: blades circle around you and cut through anything they touch.

The horde

Skeleton minions shamble in first. After 45 seconds, hooded skeleton rogues start sprinting at you, and after a minute and a half come armoured skeleton warriors that take many hits. Every 90 seconds the giant Bone Mage rises. It is slow but very tough, and it drops a big pile of gems.

Tips

  • Keep moving in wide circles. Standing still lets the horde surround you.
  • Spread shot and piercing work well together against big crowds.
  • Spinning blades protect you up close, which is where most of your damage comes from.
  • Grab Healing potion when your health is low; it heals you completely.
  • Use the open middle of the yard. Corners are where runs end.

Questions

Is it scary?

No. The undead are chunky cartoon skeletons, there is no blood, and defeated enemies simply burst into bones and gems.

Does it run on phones?

Yes. The characters' animations are pre-baked and drawn in batches, so the game can show a large horde efficiently, and it lowers its resolution automatically on slower devices.

Who made the characters?

The hero and skeleton characters are from the KayKit Character Packs by Kay Lousberg, released under the CC0 licence. The game itself, its code and design are made by MiniGames Park.
