When does GTA 6 come out?
GTA 6 releases on 19 November 2026. Rockstar set this date when it announced the game's second delay on 6 November 2025, and has stuck to it since. In recent weeks there has been no sign of another delay: pre-orders are live, pre-load dates are set and promotion is in full swing.
Like most big console launches, the game is expected to unlock at midnight local time in each region, which would make players in New Zealand among the first to play. Rockstar has not yet published an official unlock-time chart, so treat any regional times you see online as unconfirmed until it does.

GTA 6 is not coming to PS4 or Xbox One. Those consoles are not supported.
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Not at launch. Rockstar has not announced a PC version or a PC date. That follows the studio's usual pattern: GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both reached PC many months after their console releases. Some insiders and analysts have suggested early 2027 for PC, but none of that is confirmed. If you only play on PC, plan for a wait.

Pre-order bonus
Pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026. Anyone who pre-orders, or buys the game before 20 November, gets the Vintage Vice City Pack: a classic Vapid Stanier sedan with its own garage, 1980s-style outfits and hairstyles, and a pastel weapon skin.
Pre-load date and file size
If you pre-order the digital version, you can pre-load GTA 6 from 12 November 2026, a week before launch, so the game is ready to play the moment it unlocks. Make sure you have plenty of free storage space before then. Rockstar's open-world games are some of the largest downloads on console.
Physical copies: what is in the box?
The boxed version of GTA 6 contains a download code rather than a game disc. You still need to download the game, and the code also works for pre-loading from 12 November. If you wanted a disc to resell or lend, that is worth knowing before you buy.
Story, setting and characters
GTA 6 is set in the fictional US state of Leonida, Rockstar's take on Florida, centred on a modern-day Vice City. It is the series' first game with a female lead character. The story follows two protagonists, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, a couple whose small-time crimes drag them into something far bigger.
The road to release: GTA 6 delay history
- December 2023: The first trailer is released, with the game planned for 2025.
- May 2025: Rockstar delays GTA 6 to 26 May 2026.
- 6 November 2025: A second delay moves the release to 19 November 2026. Rockstar said: "We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait."
- 24 to 25 June 2026: Prices and editions are announced and pre-orders open.
The soundtrack
Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album is due on the same day as the game. Separately, an Apple Music listing spotted in late October points to a 50-track Original Score album arriving on 11 December 2026. Rockstar has not officially announced that score release, so treat the date as unconfirmed.
