Four New Free Games: Pool, Mahjong, Penalties and Archery

Short answer: We have launched four new free browser games: Pocket Pool (8-ball against the computer), Tile Temple (Mahjong solitaire), Spot Kick 3D (a 3D penalty shootout) and Bullseye Archery (3D target archery). All four are free, work on phones and computers and need no download.

This week's update brings two classics and two 3D sports games. Here is a quick look at each one, with a tip to get you started.

Pocket Pool: 8-ball against the computer

A full game of 8-ball with standard rules: break, claim solids or stripes, clear your group and sink the black. Drag on the table to aim and pull the power bar down to shoot. The guide line shows where the object ball will travel and where the white ball will deflect, which makes it friendly for beginners. The computer comes in three levels, and Hard rarely misses an open pot.

Starter tip: softer shots are more accurate. Use full power for the break and long pots only.

Tile Temple: Mahjong solitaire with five layouts

Match pairs of free tiles to clear the board. A tile is free when nothing is on top of it and its left or right side is open. There are five layouts, from the gentle Pyramid to the five-level Great Hall, and every deal is generated to be solvable. Hint, Undo and Shuffle are there if you get stuck.

Starter tip: clear the top layers and long rows first, because they block the most tiles.

Spot Kick 3D: a penalty shootout

Five kicks each against the computer, then sudden death. Swipe from the ball to shoot: the end of your swipe sets the target, speed sets the power and a curved swipe bends the ball. When the computer shoots, tap the goal to choose where your keeper dives. The goal and spot are real size: 7.32 metres wide and 11 metres away.

Starter tip: low shots just inside the post are the hardest to save.

Bullseye Archery: ten arrows, one gold

Hold to draw the bow, drag to aim and let go to shoot. Targets move from 15 to 50 metres over ten arrows, and the wind gets stronger as you go. Your sight handles the drop over distance; the wind is up to you. A perfect round scores 100.

Starter tip: shoot within three seconds of drawing, before your arms start to shake.
