GTA 6 Hack and Leaks Explained: Who Is Cyberleek and What Happened?

The GTA 6 leak saga explained: when the Cyberleek clips started, the 25-minute 'Extended Leek', the meme coin and $30M demand, what Rockstar said, and whether the 19 November launch is affected.

GTA 6 Hack and Leaks Explained: Who Is Cyberleek and What Happened?

Short answer: Since 18 August 2026, a leaker calling itself Cyberleek has posted unfinished gameplay clips of Grand Theft Auto VI. On about 8 October it released a roughly 25-minute video it called "GTA 6: An Extended Leek". Cyberleek tied the release of a full playable build to a meme coin hitting a $30 million market value. The coin never got there, and on 14 October Cyberleek said it would not release the build. Rockstar called the leaks "heartbreaking for our team". The launch date has not changed: GTA 6 still releases on 19 November 2026.

GTA 6 has been hit by leaks before. This time the leaker built a crypto stunt and a list of demands around them, which is why it keeps making headlines. This explainer sets out what happened in date order. It separates what has been confirmed from what is only claimed and tells you how to avoid spoilers before launch day. We will update it if Rockstar, Take-Two or the courts say more.

Is GTA 6 hacked? What we know for sure

Unfinished GTA 6 footage is definitely circulating online, and Rockstar has publicly admitted the leaks are real. It has not said how the material was obtained or who is behind it. Cyberleek's other claims have not been verified by Rockstar, Take-Two or any major outlet. Those include a complete 200 GB+ playable build, who it is, and the "dead man's switch" it says protects more material.

  • Confirmed: gameplay clips from a development build leaked from August 2026 onwards, and Rockstar responded publicly on 26 August.
  • Reported: Take-Two's lawyers sent subpoenas to tech companies, including Microsoft and Discord, to try to identify the people behind the leaks.
  • Claimed, not verified: a full build "playable through the credits", a $40 download price, the leaker's identity and any further unreleased footage.

Who is Cyberleek?

Nobody knows publicly. Cyberleek is an online alias, and no outlet has confirmed who uses it. It has published what it calls a "manifesto" criticising the games industry. Its complaints include digital pre-orders, games that ship unfinished, "fake single-player DLC" and licences sold as if they were purchases. It also objects that GTA 6's boxed edition contains a download code rather than a disc. Its early demands were for physical discs and a public apology from Take-Two. Neither happened, and the crypto coin took their place.

What is in the leaked GTA 6 footage?

Outlets that watched the clips describe:

  • combat, driving and police chases;
  • minigames and radio stations;
  • views of the Vice City map;
  • a custom garage, a dirt race and a street race;
  • long stretches played in first person.

Both lead characters, Jason and Lucia, appear. Some scenes show obvious development-build glitches, such as a tank spawning by a waterfall. That is a reminder this is unfinished work, not the game you will play. Rockstar has not confirmed any feature seen in the leaks.

Spoiler warning: the Extended Leek reportedly includes story scenes from early in the game. If you want to go in fresh, mute "GTA 6 leak" and "Cyberleek" on social media until launch.

What did Rockstar say about the leaks?

On 26 August 2026 Rockstar said that "having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team" and that "this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time." It added: "While it is unfortunate that the intended game experience may now be impacted by some spoilers", and asked fans to wait for the full game on 19 November.

Later, Rockstar's Aaron Garbut described leaks in a Bloomberg interview, relayed by several outlets. He said a leak "feels like somebody's wading through your dirty washing" and called it "really weirdly invasive". He was talking about the big 2022 leak, when unfinished videos spread after an attack on Rockstar's internal Slack.

Will the leaks delay GTA 6?

There is no sign of that. Take-Two has repeated the 19 November date since the leaks began, pre-orders are live and pre-loading is set for 12 November. Rockstar also stuck to its schedule after the 2022 leak. For what happens next, see our GTA 6 launch countdown: pre-load, file size and reviews.

Is it safe to download a "leaked GTA 6 build"?

No. Files sold or shared as a "GTA 6 PC build" or "early access download" are a classic way to spread malware and steal accounts. GTA 6 is not on PC at all yet, and the only legitimate copies will unlock on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November. Do not pay for, download or run anything that claims to be the leaked game. Do not connect your wallet to a coin linked to the leaks either.
